Saylor™

Overview

Saylor is a fungicide from Agritas, built on the Inorganic copper (multi-site) chemistry. It is used against bacterial blight, citrus canker, downy mildew, leaf spot, gummosis. Registered use on cabbage, chili, citrus, melon, onion, peach. Agritas supplies it through the Haryali Markaz network, where the staff know which pests and diseases are moving in your district this week and can tell you whether this is the right product for what you are actually seeing in the field.

Mode of action

Saylor™ is a foliar fungicide with preventative action. It interferes with several of the (fungus) vital life functions. For this reason, resistance is less likely to develop. Copper oxychloride is a protectant fungicide/bactericide which prevents infection on plants. Its mode of action is by interfering with the enzyme system of spores and mycelium, a process which is usually irreversible. It forms a chemical obstacle against fungal attack. Deposits must be on the crop before fungal spores begin to germinate.

Dose & application

Saylor™ is preventively used against the plant diseases like leaf spot, fruit rot, bud rot, canker, blights, downy mildew and red rust on crops like areca nut, coconut, banana, citrus, chilies, cardamom, coffee, tobacco, tomato, potato, paddy and grapes. Use the product as per the direction of local agriculture authority.

Why it pays

Disease does not take yield evenly — it takes the leaves that fill the grain. Protecting the upper canopy through grain filling is worth more than any spray applied after the spots have spread, and it costs the same bottle.

Field tips

Get it on before the disease, not after. A protectant sprayed onto clean leaf is doing its job; the same product sprayed onto spotted leaf is mostly protecting the leaf that has not been hit yet.

Watch the sky. Rain within two hours of spraying washes most of it off, and a second application on the same day is money spent twice.

Clear the old crop residue. Most of the disease that arrives next season overwintered in the stubble lying in the field.

Safety

Wear gloves and a mask while mixing, since the powder is easily breathed in. Spray when rain is not expected for at least six hours, or the product washes off before it works. Do not eat, drink or smoke while spraying, and wash your clothes separately.
