Creeping vine with arrow-shaped leaves and white or pink funnel flowers that twines around the crop and pulls it down. Its roots go several feet deep, so cutting or shallow ploughing only makes it spread.
How to scout
Mark the patches — it always returns in the same places. Note them at harvest so you can treat those spots early next season.
Action threshold: Treat when it is flowering, when the plant is moving food down to the roots and takes the herbicide with it. Never rotavate a patch — every root piece regrows.
