Leaf Curl Virus

high risk Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep

This is a virus disease. The whitefly carries it from a sick plant to a healthy one while feeding. Leaves of an infected plant curl up or down, go thick and rough, and the veins swell and stand out on the underside. The plant stays small and both the weight and the grade of the leaf fall badly.

How to scout

Walk the field twice a week and look at the youngest leaves at the top of the plant for curling, and turn a few leaves over to look for tiny white flies sitting underneath.

Action threshold: There is no spray that cures the virus, so spray against the whitefly as soon as you find about four to five adults on a leaf, and pull out and remove badly curled plants from the field.
