Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus

high risk Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct

A virus carried from plant to plant by the whitefly. First the veins of the leaf turn yellow, then the yellow spreads until only a net of green is left, and at the end the whole leaf is yellow. The pods on a sick plant come out small, pale yellow, hard and twisted, and are not worth picking.

How to scout

From the second week after sowing, look every week at the new leaves to see whether the veins are turning yellow, and turn a few leaves over to check for whitefly underneath.

Action threshold: Pull out and destroy yellow plants the day you see them, and spray for whitefly when there are about four to five whiteflies on a leaf.
