Overview

CYPION 44%EC is an insecticide from Agritas, built on the Organophosphate (Group 1B) chemistry. It is used against bollworm, army worm, aphid, jassid, chewing pests, whitefly, mites. Registered use on brinjal, chili, cotton, okra, tomato. Mode of action

CYPION 44%EC combines 2 active ingredients, which broadens the range of pests covered and slows resistance:

• Fast-acting contact and stomach insecticide affecting insect nerve channels. Good knockdown but little systemic movement, so cover the plant well.

• Contact and stomach organophosphate with some translaminar movement, used mainly in cotton against bollworms and sucking pests.

Dose & application

Rate: take it from the pack. The registered rate for this product changes with the crop and the pest, and Agritas will not print a figure here that might not match the label in your hand. Your Haryali Markaz will confirm it.

Water: 100–120 litres of water per acre with a knapsack, more once the crop closes over.

Timing: Spray when scouting shows the pest has reached threshold, not on a calendar. Early evening is best — the pest is active, the spray does not evaporate off the leaf, and pollinators have left the field.

Mixing: half-fill the tank, add the product, then top up with the agitator running. Spray it out the same day — a mix left standing overnight separates and blocks the nozzle.

Why it pays

A pest caught at threshold costs one spray. The same pest left for another fortnight costs three sprays and a share of the crop, because by then it is feeding inside the stem or the boll where nothing reaches it. The value of this product is mostly in the timing, and the timing is free.

Field tips

Cover the underside of the leaf. Most sucking pests sit there, and a spray aimed at the top of the canopy never touches them.

Do not raise the rate because the last spray disappointed. A poor result is far more often bad coverage, the wrong growth stage, or rain within two hours than it is a rate that was too low. Raising the rate mostly builds resistance.

Change chemical group between sprays rather than repeating the same one. A pest sprayed with the same molecule three times in a season is being trained to survive it.

Safety

Wear gloves, a mask and full sleeves. Spray in the cool morning or evening, never into the wind, and wash thoroughly afterwards. Keep children and livestock out of a sprayed field until the spray has dried. Most insecticides kill bees, so do not spray a flowering crop during the day. Never re-use an empty container.
