Fruit Fly (فروٹ فلائی)

Fruit Fly is a highly destructive pest that targets a wide range of fruit and vegetable crops. Adult fruit flies lay eggs inside the fruit, and once the larvae hatch, they feed on the fruit’s flesh, causing it to rot from the inside. This leads to significant crop loss and reduced marketability.

Affected Crops:

  • Fruits: Mango, citrus, guava, papaya
  • Vegetables: Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers

Damage:

1. Fruit Rotting: Fruit flies lay eggs inside the fruit, and the larvae feed on the flesh, leading to internal rotting.
2. Premature Fruit Drop: Infested fruits often fall off prematurely, reducing the overall yield.
3. Reduced Market Value: Affected fruits become unfit for sale due to visible damage and internal decay.
4. Widespread Infestation: If not controlled, fruit flies can spread rapidly, affecting large portions of the crop.

Control Methods:

Agritas offers effective products for controlling fruit flies:

1. Cygny (Deltamethrin + Triazophos)
• Effective against fruit flies and helps in preventing infestation.
• Application: Apply as soon as fruit fly activity is detected. Ensure complete coverage of the fruit and surrounding areas.
2. Zizir 10%EC (Bifenthrin)
• Provides quick control of fruit flies, reducing their population rapidly.
• Application: Use at the first sign of fruit fly activity. Spray thoroughly on the fruit and leaves.
3. Morwet Duo
• Enhances the efficacy of insecticides by improving their coverage and effectiveness on fruit surfaces.
• Application: Mix with insecticides and apply to the affected areas.

Additional Tips:

  • Use Traps: Deploy pheromone or bait traps to monitor and reduce fruit fly populations.
  • Remove Affected Fruits: Collect and dispose of infested fruits to prevent further spread.
  • Sanitation: Keep the orchard clean and free of fallen fruits, as these are breeding grounds for fruit flies.

How to scout

Look for pin-prick punctures and soft brown patches on fruit. Cut open a fallen fruit to find the maggots.

Action threshold: Hang traps early and collect fallen fruit daily; spraying alone will not control it.
