Yellow wavy stripes run down from the leaf tips and edges and later dry to straw colour. Cut a fresh lesion and stand it in clear water: a milky thread oozing out confirms bacteria rather than fungus. It spreads through standing water and after storms damage the leaves.
How to scout
Inspect after every storm and after heavy nitrogen. The water test separates it from blast, which needs a different treatment.
Action threshold: Fungicides do not work on bacteria. Drain the field, stop nitrogen, and use a copper-based product where one is registered.
