Drude™

Overview

Drude is a non-selective herbicide from Agritas: glyphosate at 60% with glufosinate-ammonium at 20%, as a soluble granule. It kills any green plant the spray reaches, so it is for clearing ground and for directed spraying between the rows — never over a crop you mean to keep.

Method: dissolved and sprayed onto growing weeds, directed away from any crop. It is not selective.

Timing: on actively growing weeds, and not within a few days of cultivation. There is no pest threshold here - this is a weedkiller.

Why it pays

Two different ways of killing in one pack. The glufosinate acts on what the spray wets and browns the field within days; the glyphosate moves down into the roots over the following week or two and takes the perennials that the fast one would only burn back. That is why it clears ground which a contact-only knockdown keeps regrowing.

Field tips

Anything green it reaches dies, so treat drift onto a crop as damage rather than a risk. Spray weeds that are actively growing - glyphosate has to travel in living sap, and a drought-stressed or dust-covered weed takes up very little. Do not cultivate for several days afterwards; turning the soil early cuts the glyphosate off before it reaches the roots, which is the half of this pack you waited for. Hard or muddy water binds glyphosate and weakens it, so use the cleanest water you have. It is HRAC groups 9 and 10 - leaning on group 9 alone, season after season, is exactly how glyphosate-resistant weeds appear.

Safety

Wear gloves, boots, long sleeves and eye protection. Do not eat, drink or smoke while spraying, and wash thoroughly afterwards; change out of clothing the spray has wet.

The glufosinate in this pack is the more toxic of the two actives: swallowing it can cause vomiting, confusion and, in serious poisoning, fits and breathing difficulty, and the effects can appear hours later rather than at once. Anyone who swallows it goes to hospital immediately with the container, and must be watched even if they seem well at first. Do NOT make them vomit. Flush a splashed eye with clean running water for at least fifteen minutes.

Keep it in its own labelled container - never in a drink bottle - locked away from children and animals. Keep it out of irrigation channels, ponds and drinking water. Never re-use an empty pack for grain, feed, water or anything else.
