Repcil

Overview

Repcil is a glyphosate herbicide from Agritas, 480 g/L as a soluble liquid. It is systemic and non-selective: the plant carries it from the leaf down into the root, so it kills a perennial properly instead of burning off the top. Any green plant it reaches dies.

Method: sprayed onto growing weeds and directed away from any crop. It is not selective.

Timing: on actively growing weeds, several days clear of cultivation. There is no pest threshold here - this is a weedkiller.

Why it pays

Glyphosate is the one herbicide in this range that reaches a perennial root. Deela, khabbal and lehli come back from underground after a contact burndown; glyphosate travels down with the plant's own sap and kills what is below. It takes one to three weeks to show, and that wait is the price of it working properly rather than cosmetically.

Field tips

Spray weeds that are actively growing, not dusty or drought-stressed - glyphosate has to move in living sap. Do not cultivate or flood-irrigate for several days after spraying; disturbing the plant early stops the herbicide reaching the root, which is the whole reason for choosing this one. Hard or muddy water binds glyphosate and weakens it, so use the cleanest water you have. Nothing green is safe from it: keep it off your crop and off your neighbour's. It is HRAC group 9, and using it alone year after year is how resistant weeds are made.

Safety

Wear gloves, boots, long sleeves and eye protection. Do not eat, drink or smoke while spraying, and wash thoroughly afterwards; change out of clothing the spray has wet. The concentrate irritates skin and eyes.

If anyone swallows it, go to hospital at once and take the container. Do NOT make them vomit - the surfactant in a glyphosate concentrate is what does most of the harm, and vomiting can carry it into the lungs. Flush a splashed eye with clean running water for at least fifteen minutes.

Keep it in its own labelled container - never in a drink bottle - locked away from children and animals. Keep it out of irrigation channels, ponds and drinking water. Never re-use an empty container for water, food, grain, fuel or anything else.
