Overview

Hubroot 0.4%G is a soil granule from Agritas carrying fipronil, a phenylpyrazole. It is not sprayed. The granules go into the soil against stem borer, termite, root grub and the soil insects that live below ground.

Mode of action

Dose & application

Method: placed in the soil as the label directs — in the furrow, banded in the row, or at the plant base. It is not sprayed and not dissolved, so there is no spray volume.

Timing: at sowing or with the first irrigation, before the damage rather than after it.

Why it pays

Termites and root grubs work out of sight, and are usually noticed only when a plant wilts or a stand thins for no visible reason. A granule placed at sowing or with the first irrigation is there before the damage rather than after it, which is when it does the most good. Where a stand is already showing damage, your Haryali Markaz can advise whether a placed application will still save what is left.

Field tips

Applied, not sprayed — there is no spray volume for this and no sprayer involved. Place it as the label directs and irrigate so it moves into the root zone. One warning about the name: Agritas sells two fipronil products and both are called Hubroot. This one is the 0.4%G granule for the soil; the other is Hubroot 5%SC for spraying. They have the same pest list and the names do not tell them apart, so check the pack. They are also the same chemical group, so using both in a season is no rotation at all.

Safety

Fipronil is highly toxic to bees and to fish. Do not let granules or run-off reach an irrigation channel, a pond or a drain, and do not apply where water will carry them off the field.

Handle with gloves and keep granules off the soil surface, where birds and poultry take them. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling, and wash your hands afterwards.

Exposure shows as headache, nausea and dizziness, and at high exposure as fits. Take anyone affected to hospital with the container. If it is swallowed, do NOT make the person vomit. Flush a splashed eye with clean running water for at least fifteen minutes.

Store locked away from children, food and feed. Never re-use the empty bag for grain, feed, water or anything else.
