Powdery Mildew

medium risk Feb, Mar, Apr, Oct, Nov

A white flour-like coating on the upper leaf surface that you can rub off with a finger. Leaves later yellow and drop, exposing fruit to sunburn. Unlike most fungal diseases it thrives in dry warm weather with cool nights, so it appears when growers least expect a disease.

How to scout

Check the upper surface of older leaves in the shaded inner canopy. A finger wipe that lifts the white layer confirms it.

Action threshold: Treat at the first patches — it moves fast once the canopy closes. Sulphur works well, but never apply it in high heat or near an oil spray.
