Potash

Overview

Potash is a liquid potassium fertiliser from Agritas. It is for topping potassium up during the season — sprayed on the foliage or run with the irrigation — when a crop is filling fruit faster than the soil can supply it. It is a nutrient, not a spray for pests or disease.

Timing: while the crop is filling fruit, and at the first leaf signs rather than on a calendar. There is no pest threshold to scout for — this is a fertiliser.

Why it pays

A crop short of potassium shows it first on the older leaves: yellowing and scorching along the margins, and in cotton a reddish-bronze cast. Then it cannot finish what it has set — fruit and bolls stay small or shed, and stems stay thin. Midday wilting on its own is usually thirst, heat or sick roots, so look for the leaf signs before spending on potash. Because this one is sprayed or fertigated, it can be given late, at the point you can already see the crop needing it.

Field tips

A foliar pass carries only a small quantity of potassium, so it sits on top of the soil dose rather than standing in for it. Spray in the cool part of the day; fertiliser salts on a leaf in strong heat can scorch it. Light sandy land holds little potassium and heavy-yielding cotton and sugarcane draw a lot of it — those are the fields where one pass is least likely to be enough, and the label says how many the pack allows.

Safety

Do not mix nutrients into a tank with other products unless the label says it is safe. Spray on the foliage in the cool part of the day; applying in strong heat scorches the leaves. Store in a dry place away from feed and drinking water.
