Aphids

Aphids are small, soft-bodied insects that feed on plant sap, causing significant damage to crops. They multiply rapidly and are usually found on the undersides of leaves or young shoots. Aphids can stunt plant growth and weaken plants by draining essential nutrients.

Affected Crops:

Damage:

1. Yellowing of Leaves: Aphids suck the sap from plants, causing leaves to turn yellow and weaken.

4. Honeydew Secretion: Aphids excrete a sticky substance called honeydew, which leads to the growth of sooty mold, blocking photosynthesis.

How to scout

Check the growing tips and the underside of the top three leaves. Sticky honeydew and black sooty mould mean the colony is established.
