Stem Borer

Stem Borer is a destructive pest that bores into the stems of plants, causing significant damage. It feeds inside the plant stem, disrupting the flow of nutrients and water, leading to plant weakening and a reduction in crop yield.

Affected Crops:

• Vegetables: Tomatoes, eggplants

Damage:

1. Boring into Stems: Stem borers create holes in plant stems, disrupting the transport of water and nutrients.
2. Wilting of Plants: As the stem is damaged, plants start to wilt, and their growth slows down.
3. Reduced Yield: Severe infestations lead to a significant reduction in yield and an increased risk of plant collapse.

Control Methods:

Agritas offers the following effective products for controlling stem borer:

1. Wriar 40%EC (Chlorpyrifos)
• Highly effective for controlling stem borers and other pests.
• Application: Apply as soon as the signs of infestation appear, ensuring thorough coverage of all affected plant parts.
2. Meileur
• Provides long-lasting protection against pests that damage roots and stems.
• Application: Spray on affected plants according to label instructions for effective control.
3. Carbo Super 3%G (Phorate + Carbofuran)
• A soil granule the plant takes up, reaching the larva where it feeds inside the stem - which no spray can do once it is in there.
• Application: Place it in the whorl or the furrow as the label directs. It is not sprayed and not diluted.

• Works against various larval pests, including stem borers, by disrupting their life cycle.

Additional Tips:

• Regular Crop Inspection: Frequently inspect crops to identify early signs of stem borer infestation and take timely action.

How to scout

Pull the central shoot of a wilted plant. If it slides out easily and is dry inside, that is a dead heart.
