Complete Crop Program for Brinjal (Eggplant) 1. Soil Preparation Deep plough 2–3 times to make a fine seedbed. Apply FYM: 3–4 tons/acre before last ploughing. Soil should be well-drained and rich in organic matter. Optimum pH: 6.0–7.5. 2.
Deep plough 2–3 times to make a fine seedbed.
Apply FYM: 3–4 tons/acre before last ploughing.
Soil should be well-drained and rich in organic matter.
Optimum pH: 6.0–7.5.
Spring Crop: Nursery sowing in Jan–Feb, transplant in March.
Autumn Crop: Nursery sowing in June–July, transplant after 40–45 days.
Prepare raised beds for sowing.
Provide light irrigation.
Seed treatment: Use Imida ST to control damping-off.
Row spacing: 2.5–3 ft (75–90 cm).
Plant spacing: 1.5–2 ft (45–60 cm).
Transplant healthy 40-day-old seedlings (5–6 leaf stage).
Fertilizer Dose (per acre) Application Time
DAP (18:46:0) 1–1.5 bags (50–75 kg) At transplanting
Urea (46% N) 1 bag (50 kg) Half at transplanting, half at flowering
SOP (Sulphate of Potash) 1 bag (50 kg) At early fruiting stage
Tip: Balanced fertilization improves fruit size, color, and yield.
First irrigation immediately after transplanting.
Then every 7–10 days depending on weather.
Increase water at flowering and fruiting stages.
Weed Damage Control Product
Purple Nutsedge (Deela) It pushes up beside a fresh transplant and takes the water and nitrogen the young plant cannot spare, so it stays stunted. Hoe 2-3 times in early growth
Horse Purslane (Itsit) It germinates with the first waterings after transplanting and sheets over the wet soil, taking the moisture the young plants need to establish. Pendimethalin 33%EC
Barnyard Grass (Swank) Its seed sprouts in the wide row spaces and, left to get away, shades the crop before the canopy closes. Pendimethalin 33%EC
Common Purslane (Kulfa) It germinates in sheets on the damp soil after the early waterings and takes water and nitrogen from the shallow feeding roots. Pendimethalin 33%EC
Bermuda Grass (Khabbal) Its runners knot into the crop's roots and come back all season, so every hoeing costs labour and the yield still drops. Remove the runners during land preparation
Manual hoeing: 2–3 times in early growth.
Chemical control: Use Agritas Pendimethalin 33% EC @ 1 L/acre after transplanting, before the weeds come up. It stops the seed as it germinates; on grass and weeds already standing it does nothing, so do not spray it again for those.
Grass that got away in the row spaces: hoe it out or pull it by hand before it sets seed — the Pendimethalin pass will not take out grass that is already up.
